The Barrymore Awards honor the best in Philadelphia theater performance and education. This year, South Philadelphia High School Principal Otis D. Hackney III received the Excellence in Theatre Education and Community Service Award for his work on “We Write South Philly High.” Produced in collaboration with 1812 Productions and The Wilma Theater, the play was excerpted for an opening performance by students involved in its writing and professional actors. See an interview with Kate Shindle with our Youth Council members (including two South Philly High performers/writers) and a clip from the opening performance.
