2024 Annual Playwriting Festival
Philadelphia Young Playwrights invites students in grades K-12 to submit their play(s) or monologue(s) to our 2024 Annual Playwriting Festival! To submit your piece, please follow the instructions below.
To learn more about what happens next, and the opportunities your play may be eligible for, click here. Every year hundreds of students just like you submit their plays and monologues to us for individualized feedback and the chance to continue to work on your writing in new and exciting ways. From romantic comedies about lonely crayons to dramas about fighting for social change, every play is welcome! The choice of subject is up to you. This is your chance to share your voice with your community either through a play or a monologue, or both!

WHAT CAN I SUBMIT?

SCRIPTS NOT MEETING THESE CRITERIA ARE NOT ABLE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR SUBMISSION.
- You can submit as many plays or monologues as you want, but we ask that you submit each piece of writing separately (submission instructions below).
- Group plays and monologues are welcomed
- Scripts must be entirely written by one or more people who are under the age of 19 or in grades K-12 at the time of submission.
- Submissions are accepted from Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, or Delaware, or from any student who has participated in our classes in the 2023-2024 school year.
- If you’ve submitted your play or monologue to us in the past, please only submit it again if you’ve made major revisions or changes.
- We ask that scripts be submitted in Standard American format. Scroll down to download the Style Sheet.

HOW DO I SUBMIT?
The deadline for submitting your work is May 17, 2024.
If you run into issues during the submission process or if you need to submit a hard copy please contact Ali Nebistinsky at 215-665-9226 or email [email protected].
- FIRST, save your play as a Microsoft Word Document (saved as .doc) or Adobe PDF (saved as .PDF) with the name of the document as School, Grade, Play Title, Author Last Name
- OR provide a Google Doc link to your play.
- You can get this link by: 1) Clicking the "share" button on your google.doc, 2) clicking "get shareable link" on the top right, 3) where it says “enter names or email addresses” enter [email protected], and then 3) copy and paste that link into the submission form.
- If you decide to share the link you MUST make sure that you add [email protected] to the share settings or else we can’t see your play!
- THEN fill out an Electronic Submission form by clicking HERE.
- When filling out the submission form please be sure that your name, address, phone number and email address are entered correctly. We’ll need this information to share feedback about your play or monologue with you and to contact you if we decide to produce your play!
- Whenever possible please include a personal instead of school email address. Often the school email addresses prohibit emails from outside senders and we want to be able to reach you with opportunities for your play!
- Once you have uploaded your play, you will receive a confirmation email. Please review your submission info to make sure you have entered everything correctly!

PLEASE NOTE: By submitting your play to the annual Playwriting Festival, you are giving Philadelphia Young Playwrights, a nonprofit organization, permission to produce your play in a workshop production or play reading series now or in the future, as well as use your play for educational purposes without financial compensation to you. Your play may also appear in future published anthologies, and if so, PYP will offer you appropriate compensation.
