Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the Philadelphia Art Alliance, we held our Saturday Morning Reading Series, which included two plays written by a 6th grader from St. Francis De Sales and an 8th grader from Smith Elementary. The plays, A Moment for Life  by Kashay Fogle and Love Triangle by Crystalbell Smith, were both performed by student actors from the Temple University Department of Theater.

Video, Pictures, and more from the Playwrights after the break!
NOTE FROM THE PLAYWRIGHTS:

A Moment for Life is about a 16 year old girl name Lashay. She is raised in a Christian home, but she is not your typical preacher’s daughter. Lashay has a special bond with her bad influence brother and struggles to do what she likes, and that is to rap. (Kashay Fogle/Grade 6)

Love Triangle is about a high school love triangle between a girl, a boy, and his ex-girlfriend. (Crystalbell Smith/Grade 8).

Additionally, we invited two theater designers (who’ve worked previously with us on Time Machine: The Lost Hour), to bring design elements to these students work which was presented as part of the morning.  Check below for the costume designs for Love Triangle and listen to the rap for A Moment for Life!!!

Costume Designer: Amy Martin (UARTS undergrad design student)

Sound Designer: Anthony Martinez-Briggs (PYP Teaching Artist Apprentice/MC for illdoots)

The event was hosted by Natalie Torpey (Youth Council Host), A. Taylor Williams (Board Host), and Thelma Reese(Founding Trustee Host) in memory of founding board member , Patricia Del Rio.

We would like to thank all of those who came out and contributed to the success of the event. We look forward to seeing you all at the next one, on March 29th at The Arden Theater Hamiltion Family Arts Center.
