Youth Council member and We Write South Philly High playwright Thien To was featured on local television channel PhilyCAM (Comcast 66/966 and Verizon 29/30) as part of a program produced by PhillyCAM and Philly Youth Radio entitled “Teen Sanctuaries” about places teens like to go to destress or create. Young Playwrights was featured in the Live Arts Festival/Philly Fringe blog in June!
As part of a profile on local theatre education and innovation, blogger Mara Miller spoke with students Manna-Symone Middlebrooks and Pascale Smith, Teaching Artist Kate McGrath and program alum/Teaching Artist Apprentice Nathan Wainstein. Board member and program alum Quiara Alegría Hudes was recently awarded the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama! She was awarded for her latest play Water By the Spoonful, which had its premiere run at the Hartford Stage in Hartford, Connecticut. Young Playwrights could not be more proud of her accomplishments, and we support all of our students in the pursuit of their dreams!
