CORE
PROGRAM

For 30 years, principals and teachers have turned to PYP to provide our Core Program of classroom playwriting workshops for students in grades 2-12. More than 90% of Core Program placements each year occur in non-arts classes (English, Language Arts, History, and Social Studies). While the program is flexible to accommodate the needs and objectives of each school, our typical program...
  • Consists of 10-25 hours of classroom visits by our professional teaching artists and classroom visits by actors and other theatre professionals to bring students words to life and offer revision feedback and support
  • Professional development services for the participating teacher
  • Access to the Playwright Commons, our virtual hub for playwriting curriculum
  • Facilitation of an in-school festival
  • Services of our Literary Committee for each student writer who submits a play to our Annual Playwriting Festival, giving them individualized feedback on their work

In 2017-18, PYP provided more than 2,200 hours of instruction in 92 classrooms through provision of the Core Program.
