Calling all young artists, performers, and changemakers! Join us for a six-week after-school theater workshop focused on making your voice heard through drama. In enACTing Change, you'll work with other young artists to create an original play about an issue you want the world to pay more attention to. This program will support a group of young playwrights to create a play, from page to stage, which centers around an issue they care about. The workshop will culminate in a performance for friends and family on April 7th!
When: 4:00-5:30, March 3, 10, 17 and 24, 31 and April 7 (Tuesdays)
Where: The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut St. 19104

What will we do?
Choose and research a cause that's important to you
Write scenes and monologues to bring your ideas to life
Play theater games and activities
Design, rehearse, and perform an original play as a group
Take videos and photographs of our experiences to share with friends and family
Plan and perform together in a final play!
This is a great program for students who...
Care about their community and want to make a difference on issues that matter to them
Love to perform and create – whether they're experienced performers or just trying theater for the first time
Have big ideas they want to share with the world and are looking for a creative way to express them
Enjoy working collaboratively with peers from different schools and backgrounds
Want to have fun while learning about theater, storytelling, and making their voices heard
No theater experience necessary – just bring your ideas and your voice! Every child will have a part to play in our ensemble, from acting and performing to designing sets and capturing the experience. There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved, and playwrights will have the opportunity to participate in research at Penn through their artwork.
*PYP is partnering with literacy researchers at University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education to explore how children and youth understand their digital and non-digital audiences. Children in the workshop would be invited to use a digital documentation app, Seesaw, to capture their creations and activities through film. We will have recorded sharing circles and activities, including a theater “talk-back” session after the final performance. After the workshop, participants would be invited to make a short video about their experiences making the play. Please email Clara Abbott at [email protected] if you are interested or have questions.
