@ the Rotunda in the Mint Building
(1700 Spring Garden Street)

The Adele Magner Memorial Award was established by the Philadelphia Young Playwrights Board of Directors to honor and remember the work of our beloved founder, Adele Magner. Adele founded Young Playwrights in 1984 to tap the potential of youth and inspire learning through playwriting. Adele was a true pioneer in arts education, developing our concept of the Artistic Team – the pairing of a classroom teacher with a professional theatre artist to teach young people how to express themselves through playwriting and to awaken them, their schools and families to the power of the theatre. The Award recognizes the work of a student and Artistic Team, a teacher and a teaching artist, for whom their three-way collaboration has made a significant difference in each of their lives. The criteria for this award reflect the three qualities that Adele admired the most: collaboration, perseverance and transformation.
